How do you call a blind dinosaur?
Doyouthinkhesaurus.
How do you call a dinosaur with large teeth and big claws?
You don't call him, you just run the hell out of there!

hi all,
some sad news today. a good and long friend of our stamp club passed this last friday from lung cancer. his name was francis mcglinnis and was a ww2 bomber pilot who helped to fight the nazis in the european theatre. he was stationed in england i think. his nickname was 'mac'. he was close to 90 years of age. he was an avid collector of the used british colonies. he was not married as i know. i will miss his big blue eyes and his being in the front of our club during our monthly auctions awaiting used stamps to buy. i was the auctioneer. it always saddens the cajun to lose one of his 'uncles' to this dreaded disease. he lost his mother with her 'blue' eyes to it. and quit smoking 12 years ago. if you smoke, please quit before it is too late.

You are right, of course. I have never smoked.
The connection between smoking and lung cancer was first proved by a doctor in Oxford, although is seems pretty obvious to me that it would not be good for you.
There was an interesting article in the very reliable high-quality Guardian today. The recommended maximum intake of alcohol for women is 14 units per week. (A unit is a fixed amount, but about the amount in half a pint of beer or a glass of wine). According to her Equerry, the Queen Mother regularly drank at least 70 units a week, probably much more. She used to hide bottles of gin in hat boxes, especially when travelling abroad. I don't suppose the Customs searched her.
Her favourite drink ever morning was a mixture of 1 part Dubonnet, 2 parts gin.

She lived almost to 102.

bonjour PN,
well, the cajun has been sober for 22 years because of PTSD ( post trauamatic stress disorder from the vietnam war ). he still remains a recovering alcoholic and will do so for the rest of his life, one day at a time. maybe i won't live to be 102, but i will be sober when i go. and of clear conscious. i hope.

The Queen Mother was always sober, of course.
It may not be true now, but at one time no British aristocrat had ever reached the age of 100, not ever in history, so to get to this very unusual age is under these conditions is extraordinary. She was in very serviceable mental and physical health, too.
(I write British aristocrat because she was from a Scottish aristocratic family, apart from marrying the Duke of York who unexoectedly became king, and she turned out to be a good choice of queen for the war years, which was very important. This is why nobody begrudged her her gin and other luxuries).
Of course her husband died of lung cancer in 1952 .

bonjour PN,
no respect to her highness of course, only my admiration for a fine lady of quality and a credit to her country in times of much stress during the great ww2. she was the inspiration for all women as was our mrs. roosevelt. it is too bad such women of this courage do not exist anymore. but the cajun's own uncle bebe died of alcoholism. he too served in the army, but succumed to the bottle for the rest of his short life and died at the age of 60 i believe, a pauper behind a bar. i am grateful to be sober now and approaching that age within 3 years. and much better off. it was a pity as uncle bebe was an incredibly intelligent man who could do crossword puzzles within minutes, a talent that even i envy to this day.
